Gray's Reef Underwater Sea Creature Awards
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) held its annual Sand Arts Festival , Friday, May 6, 2011
on Tybee Island. Visitors viewed temporary sand art masterpieces created on the
island's north beach competing for cash prizes.
SCAD students, faculty, staff and alumni competed individually or in teams of up to four
members. Entries in the sand castle, sculpture, relief and underwater creature contests must contain
only sand and natural objects found on the beach, such as shells, driftwood, seaweed, etc.
Awards for the best underwater creature from the sand sculpture category are presented by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation through Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary.
